Over the years space science has crossed paths with and benefited medical science. South Texans are receiving some of the benefits of this science at the Nuclear Medicine Department of Radiology Associates.

More Than A Mammogram
Dr. Michael Michell sits inside the reading room where he and the rest of the Breast Imaging Team at Radiology Associates spend most of their time analyzing mammograms and ultrasounds. The team is made up of a specialized group of four doctors who share a love for breast imaging and solely focus on it. "We formed it because we take breast imaging very seriously and feel it's important and best done by people who have a real passion for it, are trained at it, and see a lot of it," says Dr. Michell.

The American Cancer Society named Radiology Associates #11 fundraiser IN THE NATION for their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer efforts.

'Operation Empty Pink Chair' comes to Coastal Bend
CORPUS CHRISTI - That empty pink chair at your favorite business represents more than just a place to sit. It's a visual reminder that many diagnosed with breast cancer don't survive. Radiology Associates is preparing to kick off its awareness efforts Wednesday for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The first load of more than 200 pink chairs were delivered Monday as part of "Operation Empty Pink Chair." The chairs will appear at local businesses, neighborhoods, intersections and other locations throughout the Coastal Bend.

Jazz for Pink Friday At Heritage Park
CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Breast Cancer Awareness month is approaching and will be kicked off with Jazz for Pink at Heritage Park Friday. Sarah Acosta was live for 3News First Edition with Radiology Associates who are putting on the event, learning how local breast cancer patients will benefit from the money raised for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer with the American Cancer Society.

Radiology Associates designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
Radiology Associates has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy)

Expanding to Better Serve the Coastal Bend
Radiology Associates is proud to announce the addition of another new location - in Alice. The facility is now providing x-rays, digital mammograms, and ultrasounds to patients living in Alice and the surrounding communities such as Banquete, Agua Dulce, and Orange Grove.

The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommendations to cut screening entirely for women aged 40-49 and decrease it to every other year for women 50 and older are severely flawed.

Such has been the drama at the Texas State Aquarium's Tortuga Cay sea turtle exhibit. The sea turtle sanctuary opened in March as part of a $3 million, three-year expansion of Conservation Cove, an outdoor exhibit plaza for seldom-seen species, including Kemp's Ridley, hawksbill and green sea turtles in a natural lagoon habitat.
